Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several others, after an opposition march on October 6, 2026. About 200 INDIA bloc MPs set out from Parliament’s Makar Dwar towards the Election Commission office, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Police stopped the march, and the MPs staged a sit-in. Rahul Gandhi crossed the road and entered the Akashwani campus, and Priyanka Gandhi, Deepender Hooda and Pawan Khera later joined him.
Akhilesh Yadav and Derek O’Brien were detained outside. The stand-off lasted around eight hours, and at about 7:30 pm Rahul Gandhi was removed from the premises in a bus. About 30 detained MPs were taken to Kingsway Camp and released after 10 pm. The FIR, lodged at the Parliament Street police station, alleges trespass and forced entry into the campus, and later reports speak of further FIRs over alleged assault on police personnel and damage to a police vehicle.
Police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were in force in the New Delhi area. Delhi Police also asked social media platforms to remove posts it described as giving a misleading account of the police action. The opposition has framed the march as part of its campaign against the Election Commission over voter-roll deletions, so the cases are likely to sharpen the political confrontation.
