A Russian drone attack on Kyiv has hit a building belonging to Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in the historic centre of the capital. At least two people were killed there, and reports describe the dead as staff of the academy. The blaze forced emergency crews to fight fires in the heart of the city. Across Ukraine, Russian drones killed around nine people on Monday and wounded more than 80.
In Dnipro three people died and 19 were wounded when a business centre was struck, while in Zaporizhzhia 32 people were injured. Kyiv also saw damage to a medical facility, a pharmaceutical company and petrol stations. Data centres and communications infrastructure in several cities were targeted, following strikes on mobile networks the day before. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said about 90 of the 120 drones launched on Monday were jet-powered, with roughly 57 per cent intercepted.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia is deliberately widening the limits of what it believes the world will tolerate, and he urged allies to supply more air defence. The academy called the attack barbarity aimed at peaceful workers. The assault came on the sixth straight day of intensified Russian strikes on economic and civilian-linked sites. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians, but the pattern is fuelling calls in Kyiv for faster air-defence deliveries.
