A former Kerala Congress leader has gone to the state High Court seeking to have BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s win in the Nemom constituency declared void. The petitioner, K. S. Sabarinadhan, a former MLA and KPCC general secretary who finished third in the April 2026 contest, filed the case on 31 July. His central charge is that two Bengaluru properties in Koramangala, valued together at about Rs 91. 64 crore, were left out of the candidate’s sworn affidavit.
One of them is put at roughly Rs 77 crore and the other at about Rs 14. 5 crore. The petition also claims the value of several family-linked companies was drastically understated compared with their book value, leaving a gap of nearly Rs 78 crore. Examples cited include a securities firm declared at a few lakh rupees that allegedly carries a book value above Rs 15 crore. A third allegation concerns a loan default to the financial institution IFCI by a telecom firm once associated with him, said to stand at over Rs 83 crore before interest. Chandrasekhar’s own affidavit had listed immovable assets of about Rs 15 crore and liabilities of around Rs 107 crore.
He won the seat by 4,978 votes, a margin the petitioner now hopes to overturn. The Congress had raised the same disclosure questions before polling, but the returning officer accepted the nomination. The petition asks the court to void the result on grounds of non-disclosure. The case gives the BJP’s Kerala unit an awkward legal cloud just as its state president is trying to consolidate the party’s newly won foothold in Thiruvananthapuram.
