Tamil Nadu School Education Minister A Rajmohan announced that the state will not provide land for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and will maintain its Tamil-English two-language policy. Speaking in Chennai, he stated that recent Supreme Court observations asking the state to identify land in every district were oral opinions in an ongoing case rather than a binding final verdict.
The minister clarified that the government is not opposed to Hindi or other languages, but it refuses to hand over land for this type of CBSE-linked central school network, pointing instead to the state’s model schools as the preferred educational pathway. Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition also opposed the expansion of Navodaya schools and suggested passing a special Assembly resolution to restate the two-language policy.
