BRS working president and former Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s special court in Nampally on September 18 in connection with the Formula E race case. The case involves the Hyderabad street race held during his tenure as municipal administration department minister. Investigators allege that about Rs 55 crore was transferred from Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority funds to the promoter Formula E Operations without mandatory Cabinet approval or standard financial procedures, and that K.T. Rama Rao personally pressured senior officials to expedite the transfer.
The ACB named K.T. Rama Rao, former principal secretary Arvind Kumar, and former HMDA chief engineer B.L.N. Reddy as co-accused. During the hearing, K.T. Rama Rao submitted a personal bond and sureties, and no arrests have been made.
The BRS dismissed the case as politically motivated by the ruling Congress government, while the ACB maintains the investigation relies on documentary evidence of procedural violations. The Nampally court is expected to continue hearings in the coming weeks.
