US semiconductor-equipment maker Applied Materials has pledged to invest about $5 billion in India through 2035. The announcement was made as SEMICON India opened in New Delhi, featuring an India Vision 2035 plan to move India from design support toward fuller product life-cycle work.
As part of the investment, the company proposes a 140-acre advanced research park near Bengaluru airport that will include labs and collaborative engineering space. The firm also plans to more than double its India research workforce and grow local supply-chain capacity roughly tenfold by the year 2035.
While final equipment assembly will remain outside India in Singapore and the United States for now, the company flagged deeper footprints in Chennai and Mumbai alongside a proposed customer-support hub in Gujarat. Groundbreaking dates for the research park have not yet been locked, leaving execution details for later filings and land clearances.
