The Chennai Central Crime Branch conducted an early-morning search on Wednesday at the Anna Nagar residence of former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Investigators also searched several linked addresses in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli to gather documents and trace financial transactions. The action stems from allegations that up to Rs 100 crore was collected from private school managements in exchange for government approvals during his tenure.
This raid follows an earlier search of former minister KN Nehru’s residence by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, which examined an alleged Rs 888 crore cash-for-jobs scheme and roughly Rs 1,020 crore in contracts and manipulated transfers. Poyyamozhi had previously visited Nehru in solidarity during that search. The Enforcement Directorate had earlier flagged irregularities to state authorities, prompting the wider scrutiny.
The Madras High Court has granted an interim stay on further vigilance action against the accused while the case proceeds through the courts. Police stated that the multi-city operation is specifically aimed at verifying financial trails and documents tied to the school-approval allegations.
