A counterfeit medicine racket supplying fake or repackaged drugs, such as cancer medicines and ICU injections, to over 90 hospitals and clinics in Bengaluru has been uncovered by the Bengaluru Police Special Investigation Team and the state Drugs Control Department. Pharmacy owner Veeresh Kumar Jain was arrested after investigators traced part of the supply chain to his outlet, Krupa Healthcare, which is suspected to have been a storage and distribution point. The network allegedly procured low-cost or expired medicines, rebranded them with counterfeit labels, and sold them at discounts of about fifty percent.
The investigation began following an August 18 raid at a farmhouse in Bengaluru South district that found suspected counterfeit medicines valued at around five crore rupees, fake bills, and injection-filling equipment. Officers have since searched more than ten locations across Karnataka, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, and are examining over fifteen medical representatives for their suspected roles. Bank records, purchase vouchers, and sale documents have been seized, and a second suspect described as the network’s kingpin remains absconding.
