A senior delegation of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi travelled to New Delhi to lodge a formal complaint with the National Commission for Women and the National Human Rights Commission. The complaint addresses the alleged manhandling of party legislators by police outside the Telangana Assembly on September 7, when BRS MLAs wearing black T-shirts were stopped from entering during a protest. BRS leaders alleged that male and female police personnel pushed and jostled the legislators, with some officers accused of pulling women MLAs by their hair and sarees, and former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy was reportedly dragged away from the site.
The BRS delegation—including Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Kova Lakshmi, and MLC Surabhi Vani Devi—presented their account to commission officials, intending to pursue an independent inquiry into police conduct. Congress leaders offered a different version, accusing BRS legislators of behaving inappropriately toward women police officers during the scuffle. Video clips of the confrontation captured by party workers circulated widely on social media, fuelling public debate and drawing attention from women’s rights advocates who called for a transparent review.
The episode has created a fresh flashpoint between the ruling Congress government and the opposition BRS in Telangana. The BRS has signalled it may escalate the matter further if it is not satisfied with the response from the commissions.
