The Union Cabinet approved a ₹2,419-crore railway multi-tracking project covering 110 kilometres between Ghatkesar and Kazipet via Yadagirigutta in Telangana. This line is part of an eight-project package worth ₹20,804 crore across nine states, intended to expand the Indian Railways network by about 540 kilometres. Five of these projects, valued at over ₹10,000 crore, are located in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana.
The additional tracks on the Ghatkesar-Kazipet corridor aim to relieve congestion on a busy passenger and freight route operating near capacity during peak hours. Connecting Hyderabad’s Secunderabad division with Kazipet, the project involves laying parallel lines alongside existing tracks to allow simultaneous train movement. The broader package is targeted for completion by 2029-30 to support connectivity and freight movement.
Telangana state officials welcomed the approval, stating the infrastructure will support industrial growth and lower business logistics costs. The project involves land acquisition and construction across multiple districts, with implementation depending on right-of-way clearances and funding schedules. Railway unions and local trade bodies support the investment for reducing freight transit times.
