Karnataka food-safety and drug authorities seized expired and mislabelled food worth about ₹1.38 crore during inspections of dark stores and storage facilities used by online-delivery platforms in Bengaluru. Medicines valued at about ₹4 lakh were also seized. Officials stated that the drive focused on product safety, labelling, and storage conditions.
The inspections revealed expired goods and items with improper labels. Authorities clarified that the seizures do not mean every product sold through the platforms is unsafe, but rather highlight serious compliance concerns at the specific facilities inspected.
Affected companies and outlets can face licence action or be required to correct deficiencies under food-safety rules. Officials noted that the scale of the seizure pressures quick-commerce operators and suppliers to improve inventory controls, while also reminding consumers to check expiry and labelling information on packaged goods.
