A Dubai-bound Air India Express flight carrying passengers from Kerala made an emergency return to Cochin International Airport after a technical malfunction occurred mid-flight. About fifty minutes after takeoff at a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet, the flight crew detected a rapid drop in Engine 1 oil levels. The pilots contacted Air Traffic Control to request an expedited return, prompting the airport to activate emergency protocols with fire engines and medical teams deployed along the runway.
The aircraft landed safely in Kochi without further incident, and all passengers and crew were reported safe and evacuated calmly after taxiing to the gate. Aviation technical teams grounded the aircraft for inspections, and preliminary checks indicate a mechanical issue in the engine lubrication system may have caused the oil pressure drop.
Air India Express arranged a replacement flight to Dubai for the affected passengers, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation authorities were formally notified to initiate a standard safety review. The airline praised the flight crew for their swift decision-making and adherence to safety protocols during the event.
