A joint counter-terrorism operation in the forested hills of Budgam district’s Ashdar Gali left one militant dead on Friday. The operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force following intelligence about suspected terrorist movement from Pulwama’s Pakherpora area toward Yousmarg. Troops noticed suspicious activity, and after being fired upon when challenging the individuals, a prolonged exchange of gunfire occurred in the dense forest.
Security forces neutralised one terrorist and recovered an AK rifle alongside other war-like stores from the site, though the slain militant’s identity has not yet been established. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the details, noting the troops’ vigilance during the initial contact.
A search operation remains underway as forces believe at least one more terrorist from the group may still be hiding in the forest. Officials stated that operations will continue until the area is cleared, with additional reinforcements moved in to support the ongoing search.
