BJP councillor Satya Sharma was re-elected unopposed as chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Standing Committee for a second consecutive term. Her party colleague Satyapal Singh was also returned unopposed as deputy chairperson at the MCD’s Civic Centre headquarters after the ruling Aam Aadmi Party did not field rival candidates.
During the proceedings, heated exchanges, scuffling, and sloganeering broke out among rival party workers and councillors, with reports of torn clothing and pushing. AAP councillors also alleged that norms for a toll-tender process were altered without proper discussion. Following her win, Sharma outlined a five-point agenda focusing on cleanliness, healthcare, education, governance, and strengthening corporation finances.
