US Vice President JD Vance stated in Washington that the United States will not resume negotiations with Tehran until Iranian forces stop attacking commercial shipping vessels. He argued that the conflict has not reached an end as fighting and disruption continue, and suggested that China has behaved more responsibly regarding shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Vance also confirmed that US Central Command is formally investigating a deadly US airstrike near Sirik that Iranian officials say struck a wedding celebration and killed at least four people, including two children. While expressing skepticism about Tehran’s version of events, he acknowledged American forces were operating in the area.
In response to the strike, the Iranian Red Crescent Society wrote to the International Criminal Court to urge an independent inquiry. Meanwhile, the ongoing war that began in February continues amid rising crude prices and mounting US casualties, with no clear endpoint in sight.
