Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has removed Forest Minister Konda Surekha from his cabinet, sending a formal recommendation for her exclusion to the state governor. The action follows weeks of internal Congress party turmoil triggered by remarks made by Surekha’s daughter, Konda Sushmitha, targeting the chief minister and a sitting party MLA from Parkal.
The comments drew a strong backlash and a formal notice from the party’s state disciplinary committee. Surekha responded that her daughter’s remarks were personal opinions and that holding a parent politically accountable for a family member’s views was improper, but this explanation failed to satisfy the leadership.
Alongside the cabinet change, Reddy announced new organizational appointments within the state party structure. Surekha, who has previously held the forest, endowments, law and legislative affairs portfolios, leaves her ministerial berth amid ongoing frictions inside the Telangana Congress regarding loyalty and public conduct.
