Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned overnight missile and drone strikes targeting the country, calling them a blatant violation of sovereignty, a direct threat to security and stability, and a grave breach of international law. The attacks occurred as Iran widened its retaliation against the United States to include military and infrastructure targets across the Gulf, with missile and drone activity also recorded over Bahrain and Jordan. Air raid sirens sounded in parts of Bahrain during the same night.
The strikes followed American strikes on Iranian territory a day earlier in a conflict lasting months, which has drawn in several Gulf states hosting US forces. Kuwaiti officials warned that targeting Gulf states undermines diplomatic de-escalation efforts and could destabilize the region, while neighboring states like the UAE echoed the condemnation and demanded an immediate halt to attacks on civilian and economic infrastructure.
Kuwait has previously sought neutrality by hosting US military facilities while trying to avoid becoming a central battleground, but the latest strikes complicate this balancing act and raise questions about the safety of American assets. Regional diplomats noted that the expanding pattern of strikes marks a dangerous new phase in the conflict. Kuwait has not detailed the extent of any damage or casualties from the overnight attacks.
