West Bengal police have arrested six people from Howrah following the vandalism of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee’s party office on Camac Street in Kolkata. Banerjee alleged that armed men broke into the office early in the morning, assaulted staff, damaged furniture, and stole electronic equipment including phones, a printer, and a television, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of orchestrating the attack. The BJP denied the charge, with a senior functionary suggesting the incident stemmed from an internal TMC rift.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident as an “attack on democracy” and criticized the delayed police response. Preliminary police findings indicate that the political affiliations and motives of the six arrested men remain unclear as investigators continue questioning them to determine whether the attack was politically motivated or connected to an internal dispute.

The vandalism follows a previous standoff at the building days earlier, when civic and police officials attempted to remove a TMC-branded billboard. The ongoing case has become a major political flashpoint in the state’s charged climate, with both parties accusing each other of lawlessness and intimidation.
