An explosive device, suspected to be a hand grenade, was thrown into the residential compound of Manipur Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh late Thursday night. The blast occurred at around 8:15 pm at his home in Bishnunaha in the Yairipok area on the outskirts of Imphal, a property protected by Border Security Force personnel. An unidentified assailant reportedly lobbed the device over the compound wall under the cover of darkness before fleeing.
No injuries or major structural damage were reported, and Singh and his family were unharmed. Local police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, while forensic teams examined the site. The identity and motive of the attacker remain unclear, and no organisation has claimed responsibility.
Security agencies are investigating whether the attack is linked to lingering tensions from the state’s ongoing ethnic conflict, local political rivalries, or unrelated criminal activity. Opposition leaders have called for a transparent investigation and questioned the adequacy of security arrangements, while authorities have promised a thorough probe and increased vigilance.
