Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP activists ransacked his party office on Camac Street in central Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday morning. He stated that the incident occurred around 4 a.m. while he was in New Delhi, resulting in assaulted staff and damaged property. Banerjee shared video of the aftermath on social media, calling it a “well-planned attack” carried out by BJP workers.

Banerjee questioned the lack of response from West Bengal’s Governor, the Union Home Minister, and the Prime Minister’s Office, and alleged that Kolkata Police failed to act on repeated calls and emails for nearly two hours. He also directed a message at West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, stating that if the BJP resorted to intimidation, the chief minister had “no moral authority to remain in office” and should resign. Furthermore, he demanded the public release of CCTV footage, the arrest of those responsible, and urged the Calcutta High Court to take serious note of the situation.

The allegations follow an earlier controversy involving the same Camac Street office, where police registered FIRs against Banerjee, fellow TMC MP Derek O’Brien, and others following a confrontation over the removal of a party hoarding from the building’s roof. In connection with that earlier case, Banerjee, his personal assistant, and other TMC figures had already been questioned by Kolkata Police in the days leading up to the alleged ransacking. The BJP has not yet issued a detailed public response to the latest allegations.
