A passenger bus overturned on a desert road in Egypt’s South Sinai province, killing at least 22 people and injuring 28 others. The crash happened on the route between the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba as the bus was reportedly traveling from Cairo to Amman, Jordan. Egyptian media stated the vehicle rolled over after a tire blew out, though the country’s health ministry has not officially confirmed the cause.

Roughly ten of the dead are believed to be Jordanian nationals, according to Jordanian media, with the remaining victims mostly Egyptian. Emergency services transported the injured to hospitals in the surrounding area.

The Jordanian government is expected to work with Egyptian counterparts to repatriate the bodies of the citizens killed in the crash. Egyptian authorities have not yet announced whether any criminal or negligence charges will be pursued against the operator.
